| Lava Flowing from Kilauea, Big Island | |
| I took this photo from a distance of about 15 feet. The heat was almost unbearable, I kept worrying that the temperature would damage my camera equipment. I had to turn away and distance myself after every three to four shots, it was like sticking your head in an oven and breathing. The active Kilauea Caldera has been flowing continuously for over a decade, although sometimes it only flows under the crust. At this particular time molten lava was breaking the surface all over the place. It flows down from the Kilauea Caldera to the ocean where it cools and creates new land, causing a steam cloud to raise over 100 feet above. Nikon N65 35mm Film Camera, 28-80mm Zoom Lens |
