Here are some of the reef creatures commonly encountered in Hawaii's waters. Most of these species can be found all over the state, in relatively shallow water at accesible beaches. These images were all taken by John Worden or Chuong Nyugen, and are copyrighted. If you wish to use any of these images, please contact me for permission. We often allow free use of our images for students, educational institutions and non-profit organizations. Most images available in high resolution.

Green Sea Turtle
Another animal frequently encountered in the waters around Hawaii is the Green Sea Turtle. These graceful animals are protected and touching them carries a large fine. If you find a Green Sea Turtle please observe it with respect and care and resist the temptation to chase them, you will find they can be quite curious and will often approach you if they feel safe.
