| Octopus in Hiding | |
| If you look closely here you will see an octopus, known as tako or he'e in Hawaii, as it rests motionless on the coral. You can see from this image how effective an octopus camoflauge can be. This animal's color and pattern matches the underlying reef almost perfectly. People often swim right past them without ever knowing they are there. Octopus can change color, pattern, and even skin texture in a matter of seconds. This particular one changed from smooth and dark red to this bumpy spotted appearance right before my eyes.
